We Always Change March 10, 2011

Downward to darkness, on extended wings. Some parts of Toronto are beautiful in the wintertime, while others are inescapably repulsive: black ice and disfigured frozen statues of snow.

In Diamond Rings’ new video for the down-tempo “It’s Not My Party”, John O’Regan walks around the shadowy corners of Toronto – Dundas West, Queen West, Roncesvalles and Lakeshore – in high heel shoes. At one point, he stands beside a vintage chandelier shop before meandering across the Humber River Bridge, and then continuing on under the umbrage of the Waterfront condominiums that tower over him. O’Regan wastes away in isolation, popping pills and dancing drunk until the wilderness sinks him.
